Questions

What is a Unix timestamp?

The number of seconds since midnight UTC on 1 January 1970, the moment computers count time from. It is the same everywhere in the world, which is why programs and databases store dates as one. JavaScript and Java count in milliseconds instead.

How does it know if my timestamp is in seconds or milliseconds?

From its length. Today's time is 10 digits in seconds, 13 in milliseconds, 16 in microseconds and 19 in nanoseconds. If yours is another unit, choose it under Timestamp in.

Which dates can I type?

ISO 8601 such as 2026-12-31T18:30:00Z, dates such as 31/12/2026 18:30 or Dec 31, 2026 6:30 PM, the dates in emails and HTTP headers, and now. A date without a time zone is read in the zone you pick.

Is Unix timestamp converter free?

Yes, and as often as you like. It works in your browser, so there is nothing to sign up for.

Is what I type sent anywhere?

No. Everything is worked out in your browser, with its own time zone data, so nothing you type leaves your device.

Do I need to install anything?

No. It works in the browser on any computer, tablet or phone.

Can I use Unix timestamp converter from my own code?

You won't need to: every programming language can convert timestamps, time zones and dates with what it has built in. This page is for quick checks by hand.
