Questions
Is MD5 still safe to use?
For spotting a broken or incomplete download, yes. It is no longer safe against someone changing a file on purpose, because two different files can be made to share an MD5 hash. Use SHA-256 for that; it is shown here too.
Can an MD5 hash be turned back into the text?
No. A hash is one-way. Short, common words can be guessed by trying them, so never store passwords as plain MD5.
Is MD5 generator free?
Yes, and as often as you like. It works in your browser, so there is nothing to sign up for.
What happens to my files?
They stay on your device. Everything is worked out in your browser, so nothing you type or choose is uploaded.
Do I need to install anything?
No. It works in the browser on any computer, tablet or phone.
Can I use MD5 generator from my own code?
You won't need to: every programming language has hashing, Base64 and URL encoding built in. This page is for quick jobs by hand.
