Questions

What is PDF/A?

A kind of PDF made to be opened in decades' time and look the same: every font is inside the file, colours are pinned down, and nothing depends on the internet or on scripts.

Which version should I choose?

PDF/A-2b, unless you have been asked for another. PDF/A-1b is for older systems that name it, and PDF/A-3b is for when files are attached inside the PDF.

Will my PDF change?

It looks the same, and its text, fonts and links are kept. What PDF/A doesn't allow, such as scripts, is taken out. PDFs with a password, or with a digital signature, need those removed first.

Is PDF to PDF/A free?

It is included with our paid plans. A free account can try it a few times a month, and every paid plan includes more. Plans cost less than most.

What happens to my files?

Your uploads are deleted as soon as the job finishes. The file we make is deleted after an hour, or straight away if you press Delete now. We don't look at your files or keep copies.

Do I need to install anything?

No. It works in the browser on any computer, tablet or phone.

Can I use PDF to PDF/A from my own code?

Yes. Every tool is also an API endpoint. Send your files to POST /v1/pdf-to-pdfa with an API key from your Account page, then download the result when the job is done.
