Questions

Will my PDF look different?

No. The text is added to each page as an invisible layer, so the pages look the same. Pages that were scanned sideways or upside down are turned the right way up.

What about pages that already have text?

They are left as they are. Only scanned pages, which are pictures of text, are read, so a PDF that is partly scanned works too.

Which languages can it read?

English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese and Chinese (Simplified), and the main languages of India: Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, Gujarati, Urdu, Kannada, Odia, Malayalam, Punjabi (Gurmukhi) and Assamese. Pick up to three that are on the pages, such as English and Hindi.

Is OCR PDF free?

It is included with our paid plans. A free account can try it a few times a month, and every paid plan includes more. Plans cost less than most.

What happens to my files?

Your uploads are deleted as soon as the job finishes. The file we make is deleted after an hour, or straight away if you press Delete now. We don't look at your files or keep copies.

Do I need to install anything?

No. It works in the browser on any computer, tablet or phone.

Can I use OCR PDF from my own code?

Yes. Every tool is also an API endpoint. Send your files to POST /v1/ocr-pdf with an API key from your Account page, then download the result when the job is done.
