Questions

What does the report show?

Its first page counts the changes and lists them with their page numbers. Then each page with a change is shown beside its partner, the original on the left and the changed one on the right, with words taken out marked in red and words put in marked in green. Pages with no changes are left out.

What if pages were added or taken out?

Pages are paired by the words they share, not by their number, so a new page shows on its own and the pages after it still line up with their originals.

Does it compare pictures and layout?

No, only the words. A change of font, colour or position with the same words is not marked, and neither is a changed picture.

Can it compare scanned PDFs?

A scan has no text until it is made searchable. Run OCR PDF on both versions first, then compare them.

Is Compare PDFs free?

It is included with our paid plans. A free account can try it a few times a month, and every paid plan includes more. Plans cost less than most.

What happens to my files?

Your uploads are deleted as soon as the job finishes. The file we make is deleted after an hour, or straight away if you press Delete now. We don't look at your files or keep copies.

Do I need to install anything?

No. It works in the browser on any computer, tablet or phone.

Can I use Compare PDFs from my own code?

Yes. Every tool is also an API endpoint. Send your files to POST /v1/compare-pdf with an API key from your Account page, then download the result when the job is done.
